  • 24 days since I last reported!

Hey Ya'll! I trust that you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I went back to PA for the week of Christmas. It was both too short and too long-LOL. I wish I could have seen more friends, but the time restraints just wouldn't allow it. I am thankful for the time that I had with those of you I did get to see! Especially my nieces, Willow and Wrena and my other niece and nephew, Grace and Eli. I already miss you guys! Sorry gang, my "kids" just have a soft spot in my heart! To Jess, I just want to throw out a congrats on buying the house. I think it will look great when you are finished with it. There is SO much potential and I know that you will make it your own! As for me, it was good to get away for a little, but I realized more than ever, that I really like it here in SC, and for now, I believe this is where I am supposed to call home. That, in itself, is a huge step for me. As many of you know, I have spent the last three years debating whether to stay or move back to PA, and now I know the debate is over. For all of you who have had a patient, listening ear to my ramblings through all of that time, THANKS! You will be rewarded in Heaven! So life is returning to normal here. Work is busy and the weather is generally wonderful;) I am looking to join a men's accountability group. Just three or four of us, so we can keep it real. I need it and really believe God's timing of those individuals in my life couldn't be better. The online "dating" on myspace marches on. OK, there have been no dates, but atleast I am trying to get to know people! There is one gal that I just met, that I think is for real, but only time will tell. Still just getting to know her. But she is a TARHEEL FAN! OK, so her walk with the Lord is way more important, but that does give her major props though-LOL. Speaking of the Tarheels(here is where I lose Na and Jess for a few lines-LOL), they are still undefeated and ranked #1. My buddy Drew and I went to the Clemson game. We thought that we were going to witness our first loss! But the Heels pulled it out and we went home happy but emotionally exhausted(OK, not really, but it sure sounded good writing it). Only conference games left, now the men will be separated from the boys, in every conference! I am already excited about MARCH MADNESS!!!!! OK Na and Jess, you can rejoin this writing in progress-(love you guys!). I was given a MacIntosh computer for free! I am so blessed! I was shopping for a new PC and was going to pay full price, yet the Lord gave me one for free! I wanted a Mac too(but there was no way I could have afforded it). So the Lord put folks in my path who were getting a new one, so they gave me their old one. It is amazing. I love it!. I spend too much time on it though. Honestly, it is my newest vice. So seriously, pray that I would be wise with my time and not log in too many hours on here. Well, that is about all I have. I know that I should update more regularly, instead of every 3 or 4 weeks, but I'm still pretty green at this!(What a lame excuse right?) Cut me some slack-lol. So as I will sign off each time, I hope you Live, Learn, and then .....Laugh! Have a great day!

  • Online Dating and Everything Else

So I haven't blogged since just after Thanksgiving, which means atleast 2-3 weeks.  Didn't check the date on the last one, but yeah, it's time.  So I'll give you everything else first since you all just want to read about my online dating and get a good laugh or two!LOL

Everything else:   The wonderful world of college basketball is in full swing and I am missing it!  No cable, means no games!  I finally got to see my 'Heels play last night for the first time this year.  Previously all  I was able to do is watch the game tracker on the ESPN website.  How sad!  And everybody said a pitiful "Awwwwww".   But last night I went to my buddy Drew's house and watched the Tarheels beat up on Rutgers.  They aren't any good, but I still got to see the Tarheels play.  Drew and I are hoping to go to Chapel Hill sometime this season to catch a game, but we'll see.  We know that we will have to scalp because online tickets start, that's right, I said start at about $125.  So we may drive up there and we may not.   Carolina is still #1 and still undefeated.  So is Duke, so that will make our beat down of the Blue Devils all the sweeter!    Heading home for Christmas.  Leave Sat. the 22nd from Charlotte and fly back the 29th from Baltimore.  I'm not really excited.  Got so much going on here and will have to declare my future intentions of staying put in SC to the family.  FUN!  DO sense the sarcasm there!  Won't have a ton of time to see friends, but will do my best.  The holidays are busy for all of us, so I think y'all understand if we don't see each other.  Business is booming.  I'm in over my head.  Booked through February and probably into May if everything pans out.  Hope to have a partnership and my very own residential general contractors license in the new year!  Yee Haw!  I still have no clue how blessed I am to have learned these talents from my father and a few others and also to have work just flowing in.  It is amazing how God is taking care of me.  I was somewhat fearful of doing this, but God has more than calmed those fears.  Please pray for me though, that I wouldn't lose that vision of God doing the blessing instead of me "earning the work".  Bebo Norman's song, "I Have Nothing, Without You" is a great reminder of how we have nothing, earned nothing and are nothing without the love of Jesus Christ in our lives.  My truck is still running well after 209,000 miles!  Praise the Lord.  But I do sense the future is near!  I really would ask the Lord for atleast 20,000 more.  I think I could afford the repairs by then.  I lose my 4th roommate in 4 years to a woman this week!  The odds have to be getting better for me!LOL  He is packing boxes as I write.  OK, so you have read this far and you want the scoop.  Here it is.        Online Dating-  I purposely tucked it in here so you wouldn't just skip to the next sub-heading!LOL  I am no longer on the dating site and I am no longer talking to the previously mentioned gal.  She was an absolute dream, I cannot lie.  I could see myself falling MADLY in love with her, but when it came down to it, I knew it wasn't what the Lord wanted and she was /is still searching herself.  Thankfully, the fall hasn't been that painful, but it still sucks!(Sorry if that offends anyone, I just don't know how to put it into words).  I have begun "searching" on myspace.  I am finding that a lot better than the online site.  Reasons why- 1-It's free!  2-Have you ever been on some of these people's sites, they invest so much energy and effort into it.  That is a HUGE, did I say HUGE advantage over a dating site.  How they "decorate" and set up their site gives you so much more info than a dating site ever could.  3-They have music on their sites.  This says a lot too.  You know if they have Country on their page they have to be Godly!LOL  No, seriously though, what someone listens to can shed a lot of light on their personality.  4-  They have friends on these pages.  Check their friends out.  Find out what kind of shady characters they do or do not hang with.   5. People leave comments.  It is my understanding that you have to be a friend to leave a comment.  Well, you wouldn't be my friend if you left some of the comments I have read!       So where does all this incredible intelligence in the realm of online dating get me?   Single and 31!LOL  In reality though, the juice is that I am talking to a few gals, getting to know them and such.  Nothing at all looking like a potential relationship right now.  I am being much more cautious since the last gal I talked to from the dating site.  I look back now and see that I said too much and didn't listen well enough.  And you girls are saying, "That's a guy for ya!" and you guys are saying, "WHAT?  When did she say that?"LOL   As I said in my last blog, you need to live, and learn........and then laugh  Anyway, that's my life and times updated!  Have a good day.

  • My Life and Times

Saw that others have recently posted, so I thought I would keep with the trend.  Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving.  I enjoyed my day with friends.  We did something that was new for our little group this year though that I really enjoyed and should the Lord grant me a family one day, I would like to do this with them.  After our meal, we went around the table and shared and recounted what we were thankful for and what God was doing in our lives.  But after that we made plates of food up from our leftovers and went looking for people to give them out to!  It was a great experience and  I would encourage you to try it yourself.  It is definitely rewarding just to see people's faces when you hand them a plate of incredibly delicious food.

On another front, I have been dabbling in the fine art(and I use that term very loosely!) of online dating.  It has been an experience.  Not sure how to put everything into words yet!  I am no longer on a site, but am still talking with one gal.  It's exciting, but I don't want to get my hopes too high.  The fall always hurts.  And after 31 years, I really don't want to take anymore! LOL  But seriously, if you ever try it, contact me first for suggestions or comments.  You can meet some real "gems" if you know what I mean.  I have to atleast make fun of myself once about this.  I conversed with a Russian Bride for two or three times before I realized it!  Top that story!  You live and learn and then you have to laugh.

Now for the part you have all been waiting for.  The Tarheel Ticker.  I must confess I do not have any scores in front of me, but they won all three games last week,  and won the tournament in Las Vegas that they played in.  Still ranked number 1 in the country although tied with UCLA.  They suffered a blow though on Saturday night when point guard Ty Lawson went down with an ankle injury.  He's the man, and that'll hurt if he is out for an extended period of time.  The 'Heels go on an extended road trip over the next two weeks that includes, Penn, Ohio State and Kentucky.  Hopefully they will come through unscathed!

Other than that, just keep me in your prayers.  The time to decide wether or not to move home or pursue a full blown biz here is nearing.  It is a tough decision but I am really leaning towards staying.  I love it here and love my church, which is finally considering a church plant.  If so, I would love to get involved.  Pray for wisdom and clarity concerning these things for me.  I would greatly appreciate them.  Hope this blog finds you all in good spirits and good health.  Lord's blessings to all who read this.  Later, Tom

  • One Way

One way.  There are many things that come to mind.  The phrase, "There's more than one way to skin a cat."  Or "It's my way or the highway."  Another thought is the division that occurs in my hometown on York Street that creates two one way streets.  Then there is the complimentry signs of Do Not Enter or Wrong Way that always seem to accompany those on a one way street.  One way is not always an abolute.  In can be read as one way or in other words, a particular way of doing things, carrying the notion that there are more options than that one.  In a world where words constantly lose their meanings and find new ones' just as quickly, it is easy to have varying opinions on  a particular definition or intention.  Such it is in the case of one way.  My immediate thoughts of one way usually go directly to that of the Bible.  One way has a distinction in scripture that supercedes all others for me.  Jesus says in the Gospel according to John that, "I am the way, the truth and the life.  No man comes to the Father except by Me."  There is no room left to doubt what one way means here in this text.  Jesus makes it clear that there is no other way to God the Father but through Him.  Man has sure tried to dispute this, but whether one is in agreement with Jesus' statement or not, the fact is, there is no other way to God the Father.  Good works will not get you there.  Neither will a church, a pastor or even a prayer.  That's right, I said a prayer.  The finished work of redemption, found only in the grace and mercy of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary can connect our lives to God the Father's.  He will not accept us based on good works.  His holiness will not allow it.  But due to the greatness of Himself, God the Father sacrificed His sinless only begotten Son on a Roman cross over two thousand years ago.  That sacrifice paved the way, the one way, the only way to God the Father.  As children we always strived to please our parents.  Whether it was thru obeying the rules, giving a homemade card on their birthday, or doing something good in school, we wanted to be loved and have approval.  When in the end, the most important thing was that we trusted them with our lives.  We couldn't sustain our own life.  We couldn't provide our own food.  We didn't earn the money to pay the rent and buy clothes.  We were solely dependent and placed our trust in their arms for our benefit.  And though it is sad to say that there are those parents who neglect their children's needs,  the vast majority of us have had our needs met because we depended on our parents and trusted their provision.  How many of us questioned, "Dad, where did that food come from?  Are you sure we can eat that?"  or "Mom, did the house payment arrive on time this month?  I'm concerned about the roof over my head."     Those statements are almost laughable.  We accepted those things without question.  As something that was sure, something that was real, something that was true.  So it is with God the Father.  There is only one way, and that being by the blood of Jesus Christ.  Maybe you have read this and realized that you are not sure what direction you are heading.  You have always thought of other ways to try an accomplish a task that can only be completed one way.  If you would like to discuss this or learn more, please contact me and I will gladly respond.  Life is too short to go the wrong direction.  The streets we drive daily are clearly marked.  The road to God the Father is just as clear.  It reads ONE WAY> JESUS.
